Buyer - Procurement Assistant - Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear
We are working with a large engineering company in Newcastle who have an immediate requirement for an experienced Buyer/Purchasing Assistant to join them.
Responsibilities will include:
Reporting to the Senior Buyer, the primary function of the post will be to:
* Carry out procurement activities on a day-to-day basis to meet business requirements
* Negotiate cost and lead time reductions with suppliers
* Provide professional procurement support to the supply chain management department
* Responsibility for Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) for allocated suppliers
* Assist to develop and implement continuous improvement activities
Responsibilities will include
* the selection and management of suppliers
* management of purchase orders; supplier development activity
* monitoring of costs versus estimate and stock control
Crucial elements to the success of this role will be an ability to effectively communicate and negotiate; to look for improvement in the supply chain and effectively manage purchase orders for cost, quality and lead-time.

Requirements:
Applicants should possess a Business Studies qualification / Certificate in Purchasing & Supply or equivalent with experience of purchasing and expediting in a technical / engineering environment along with achievement of KPI?s and other objectives.
Knowledge of engineering products/materials and experience of supplier development is desirable.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication and negotiating skills combined with the ability to develop strong business relationships with suppliers and contractors. Good commercial awareness, attention to detail and IT skills are essential.
